Colostrum is the milk produced by cows within the first 48 hours of giving birth. Colostrum is an exceptional natural food prized by many cultures for thousands of years. Our Colostrum is 20% igG.
Our colostrum is processed from fresh chilled material. It is then pasteurised, defatted and dried immediately before packing. It is an unflavoured powder ready to mix with milk, water, live yoghurt or fruit juice. Our colostrum has also been de-fatted and the lactose (carbohydrates) levels reduced to leave a pure colostrum product free of the unwanted extras.
What are the key benefits?
Colostrum has been found to contain many important components such as antibodies, enzymes and proteins. Colostrum also contains prominent concentrations of valuable hormones, growth-promoting compounds, vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
It is commonly thought that Colostrum is so rich in anabolic and energy enhancing compounds that it is ideal for use during heavy periods of training. It has even been suggested that Colostrum can have a direct, positive effect on physical performance.
Research has shown that the immune and growth factors in dairy colostrum, including epidermal growth factor (EGF) and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), are nearly identical to human. Dairy colostrum is not species specific and works effectively in humans and other animals.
Additional information
Colostrum is not a by-product of cheese manufacture. All our colostrum products are suitable for vegetarians and are derived directly from the cow's surplus without any additives. The care of the calf is the producer's foremost consideration, its needs come first. Our colostrum is certified by the New Zealand government to be free of BSE. The cows are pasture fed under strict standards. They are not given hormones or antibiotics, and are not exposed to pesticides, heavy metals or other chemicals.
