Overview

Oryzatein® Brown Rice Protein is the ideal protein choice for anyone looking to avoid dairy and soy protein sources. Brown Rice Protein is the concentrated fraction of the whole rice grain which is produced through a wet milling and all natural proprietary process. It is produced by various steps of fermentation, filtration processing and enzymatic processing to remove the protein and fiber from whole grain brown rice. The basis for this process is sprouted whole grain brown rice which is the raw material for production.

Oryzatein® Brown Rice Protein uses non-GMO sprouted brown rice and has an amino acid profile closest to mother's milk. It is hypo-allergenic and completely dairy free making it the perfect choice for vegans and anyone looking to avoid specific allergens such as wheat, gluten, eggs, dairy and soy. Oryzatein® Brown Rice Protein is also batch tested and shown to be free of Melamine and is certified Organic.

The fantastic amino acid profile of Oryzatein® Brown Rice Protein provides a suitable alternative to Whey and Soy protein as it still provides the amino acids required by your body to build and repair muscle tissue. With over 22g of protein per 30g serving Oryzatein® Brown Rice Protein is a great source of protein with a healthy fibre content and minimal fat and cholesterol.

I have just bought this as an alternative to soy / dairy based powders as I am lactose intolerant and didn't like the idea of the oestrogen stigma attached to soy. I will let you know how well it works in a later comment, but to mask the taste I added drinking chocolate and peppermint extract, it masks the foulness nicely and makes for a really nice shake. you even forgive the grittyness!

I have tried this for a few months now. I initially had a tub of "SunWarrior" for my first experiment with Rice based protein, and although that has a smoother texture, I must say the MP Rice protein taste better (Despite the slightly sandy mix) and doesn't froth up horribly....It is also MUCH better value for money. I only ever mix with water and have experienced no digestion issues with it...Once you get over the initial gritty shock factor you'll find it's great stuff, try it out.

  • Comment:
As already stated in some reviews tastes like the contents of a vacuum cleaner bag when mixed with just water! But mixed with just milk it's drinkable. Most important to me it doesn't give me an upset stomach as whey protein seems to. If I can find something else that tastes better and doesn't upset my stomach I will be happy to keep using this :-)

Much literature has been written on the benefits of brown rice protein. Its one and only downside is its aquired taste, but to be honest the taste is easy to get used to or masked. Its my all time favourite supplement and I'd be lost without it!

i experimented this again, this time with 22 gramms of rice protien and 12 grams of egg white powder to make it a complete protien with a table or tea spoon of honey. it turns into a good thick shake ( not watery) which fills you up, however if MP grinded the rice protien down to ultra smooth it would make an excelllent smooth shake, because currently the rice protien is so gritty

i really like this stuff....as a vegan i find it is the best option, and i have it straight up with rice milk...and i quite like the flavour too. The thing i like most is that it doesn't have that vomit-inducing creaminess of Pea or soy powder. mixability is a bit cack.

I Have just tried this today upon arrival\r\n\r\nIf licked it taste sweet but when mixed with water it has no sweetness\r\n\r\ntaste gritty and bits gets stuck in your throught ( myprotein needs to grind it down more so that it would melt in water just like those rice drinks in supermarkets which they sell)\r\n\r\nwill need to add honey, sweetner or mollasses to sweeten it\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Took a little time to get used to (does taste like dust!) but quickly grew on me - mixed with chocolate flavouring it's really quite delicious. Currently mixing in a 50/50 blend with sempro soya protein. Highly recommended. Much nicer than pea protein, too. Bought 2kg to try - now wishing I'd bought in bulk.

I tried this stuff out because it's nice and cheap, and also i am keen to find a non-dairy protein other than soya.\r\nIt's absolutely foul. Tastes like i imagine a powdered mummy would. Best left undisturbed beneath a large pyramid, in my opinion.

I have been using this product for about 4-5 months now and i am a pure vegetarian who has been using a variety of different protein sources for years. I must say that rice protein is the least bloating post use that i have ever encountered, it never makes u feel full or uncomfortable. Even that whey protein sense of "fullness" is not present. In regards to performance i have switched from a majority whey supplementation to a combination of whey soya and brown rice protein. I can definitely vouch for the fact that there has been no decline in strength etc its just a solid protein product.\nWith regards to taste it is stomachable on its own but mix it with any juice ( i use cold orange) and yes its gritty and a bit earth like but far from undrinkable.\n Variety is the name of the game and this provides another great alternative. A thoroughly recommended product

Truly vile, hideous stuff that has a flavour that's impossible to mask and a texture akin to compacted hoover dust.\r\nBut out of the various vegan/eco-friendly options it's the one to go for if you either can't afford hemp protein or are concerned about the possible oestrogenic effects of soya/pea protein.\r\n

I tried a scoop of this from my flatmates batch, and i thought it was going to taste nasty, but it tastes quite nice! It is quite sweet and nutty. Also, i got no digestive problems like i sometimes get with dairy based protiens. On top of that, its Organic and Raw Sprouted, and its such a good price. Result! Mixed with the Organic sprouted Hemp protein MP sell, you would have a 'superfood' protein shake.

Just puchased a large quantity of brown rice protein. Has a similar amino acid profile to standard whey protein and since it is considerably cheaper it represents a large cost saving. However the drawback is the taste. It does not mix that well and needs drinking quickly to prevent spitting it back out! Recommend drinking with maltodextrin which slightly masks the flavour. Currently unsure whether the price is worth it for the taste. Saying that when are protein drinks meant for enjoyment...?!

There seems no getting away from the texture. I added some to a fruit and veg mix in the blender and while the taste was not really there the grittiness still came straight through.\r\nI seem to recall reading these is a smoother version made but MyProtein telling me that it is a lot more expensive.\r\nI seem to have experienced some bowel problems whilst taking this regularly but I can't say for sure that this was the cause as each time I was taking it with, and stopped taking, other supplements at the same time.

I gave this a try because, as a vegan, I've started to become a little wary of the oestrogenic and enzyme-blocking properties of soya protein. And I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. I actually feel like this stuff might be helping me grow more than soya protein ever has. In terms of taste, it's definitely less bareable than soya powder, but taste is of little importance to me. I've always found ways of masking the flavour and texture and I'll be doing the same for this.

As someone that doesn't want to eat soya because of the hormonal effect it has, and won't eat anything with sugar in (so the flavoured stuff is out) this is the best I've tasted. I did try the flavourless soy before I found out about the hormone issues and it made me want to puke, but although this stuff is a little gritty in juice, it's very drinkable

I quite like it's taste although I think one could have too much, but then I also like the unflavoured Soya protein and I've never been keen on the taste of dairy.

It's a light powder which floats on the air. At the moment I only have about 20g per dose and I mix it in a beaker with warm water and stir it with a spoon and it mixes easily enough to not need the electric hand held blender. It settles out in the beaker after a minute or so and needs a swill or re-stir. I either just glug it down or pour in my porridge.

It's a lot heavier than whey and so a scoop holds rather a lot more protein for it's size. I was having too much initially when I swapped over from Whey which I did as it's not organic (is it?) and I wanted to avoid the undesirable stuff that non- organic farmers add to the cows and their feed.

This stuff tastes rank, akin to a powdered brown box! But, that said. I'd definately buy it again. Very versatile stuff, no fear of bloating or putrifying when mixed with fruit juice (like most milk derived proteins). Good protein, bad taste, who cares! i'll buy it!

I thought i try it for the first time and found it tasted yuk! also for some reason always I have gastric symptoms after i take it. \r\n\r\nI don't if it could be because of the gluten factor???\r\n\r\nFor some reason it has a gritty texture to it which put me off If my protein sorts this out. This protein could be excellant. \r\n\r\nOverall, cause it got a good amino profile and it cause cheap it ok and so i use it for this reason only.

OK, first up, the stats are fantastic and credit should go to MyProtein for creating a product like this for a competitive price. However, it tastes absolutely dis-gus-ting!! It doesn't repeat on me like some whey proteins do, good job cos if it did I'd spew! The consistency is awful (gritty) and if you let it sit for more than 1 second it separates and is even harder to drink. It literally behaves and tastes like dirt and water. 'Nuff said. I've noticed that some other people are using cinnamon to flavour it, I'll give that a go. Not sure I'd buy it again unless it was pre-flavoured. Good idea though..!

Like a few below have said, it's major downfall is the gritty-ness even when mixed into most things.\n\nThat being, if you're taking it as a post wo boost, you're gonna just chuck it down your neck anyway, so who really cares that much?\n\nI'll definately be buying it again for sure!

Hiya, just wanted to say I'm really happy with this product, have had it for a week now and everytime I like it more. I add it to my other protein powders and when dieting it seems to keep my hunger away for a longer period than when I drink other shakes alone. \n\nI've also used it to make eggwhite pancakes, just 5 or 6 eggwhites, some Brown Rice Protein Powder and some splenda. I also find that it mixes pretty well with eggwhites. The taste is nice, it's almost like you'r having sesame milk. \n\nTo me it's 5 star, even though it doesn't mix with water easily, once used in combination with other things it's pretty good. It's a good complementry protein. \n\nI only have a question to MP, is it OK to use this Brown Rice Protein Powder in cooking, in terms of any damage that it might cause to it nutrients and absorbtion, or can I continue to make my pancakes with them? I'm also thinking of experimenting by adding it to soups, just wanna make sure it's OK?

Hello All,\n\nTaste: 4.5* - I like the taste, as has been said before it has a very 'nutty' quality to it. It masks the taste of anything that is with it. Had it in with egg white powder and couldn't taste anything but the brown rice.\n\nMixability: 3* - This is where it looses for me. I find the stuff a bit harder to mix than some of the other proteins. Not to say it is that difficult, you just have to watch it frothing up quite a bit. Especially when mixing things together.\n\nValue: 5* - What you're getting for the price is excellent. Loving the stuff, and for the price I can afford some extra!\n\nOverall 4*

However put 5 or so drops of the vannila flavour drops & a dash of cinamon & its really quite nice!! honest - I didnt really expect it to taste that much different but Vanilla defo seems to be the flavour to go for.

I actually think this tastes quite nice by itself with just water and some electrolyte powder, but even better mixed with tomato juice. I do prefer savory to sweet though. I've found it to be easy on the stomach, but a little bit of a pain to mix as it would rather float than dissolve... it does mix in eventually though. Overall it's a great alternative to dairy.\n

I enjoy doing my weights but was unable to back my diet up with Whey protein. It gives me a bad stomach and hang over type feeling. I tried soy protein but didn’t like the after taste and read mixed reviews on different sites about its effectiveness. I called my protein and was advised to try brown rice protein. I am very happy with it, I like the smell and mix it with vanilla flavouring and it goes down a treat. It’s much cheaper than Whey protein so I can consume it three times a day. Well worth trying.

It has a gritty texture and the taste is nothing to write home about. But taste is not the reason why we take protein shakes. Does it do the job? Yes! Does it keep you feeling full better than whey? Yes. Add cinnamon and you it tastes ok plus the cinammon regulates the blood sugar levels and the brown rice is low GI.

As I have been switching to vegetarian and vegan diet and supplements where ever possible. I had been using myprotein’s Unflavoured Impact Whey protein which, I must say, is a faultless product. I expected this protein powder to behave in a similar ‘whey’ :-D\n\nUnfortunately it doesn’t. Unlike the unflavoured whey equivalent, this stuff tastes foul and smells awful. As a few other reviewers have found it can’t be mixed with just water like the whey because it doesn’t actually dissolve - what you get is a ‘suspension’ of a very, very fine gritty powder. \n\nThis gritty texture is impossible to mask and can be felt as it goes down your throat. You can mask the taste and smell somewhat with a lot of flavouring (I use 10 drops of myprotein’s FlavDrops Strawberry flavouring). But I still have to brace myself for a pretty unpleasant experience when drinking it.\n\nWith the whey product I could add up to 4 scoops at a time and get a creamy drinkable shake, but anything over 2 scoops in a large amount of soy milk is undrinkable no matter how much I try to mask the smell and taste.\n\nI’ll keep experimenting to see if I can make it more palatable because the nutritional profile is as good as many whey products.

I've been training a long time using whey based proteins and although I had no problems with digestion I wanted to try an alternative after I found out what whey really is! \nUsing the brown rice protein and in combination with a good training regime, I soon saw results (much quicker than when I use to have whey products). I feel that I am having something more substantial as a drink, provides slow energy release and I feel I can push myself harder in the gym. Be warned tho: the taste and texture is not great. It tastes very earthy - I mix mine with some ovaltine, or in a fruit smoothie (that makes it a bit better and I've got some of the vanilla flavoring to try out different combinations). However, the worst part is the texture, very grainy, feels like sand in the mouth and you kind of need to have a drink or rinse after you have it. It mixes easily but if you don't have the whole lot quickly you will soon get residue on the bottom of your mixing bottle which is not great. Overall tho, it is worth it as it is natural and gives really good results! Goodbye to whey for me!
