Overview

Waxy Maize Starch (WMS) is a complex, long-chain, high molecular weight carbohydrate, free of sugar and lactose.

Many athletes feel WMS restores glycogen levels faster than dextrose, thus super-hydrating the muscle cells in record time. Taken immediately post workout as an insulin-boosting carbohydrate source, it is recommended to be taken along with a fast acting whey isolate or whey hydrolysate and other ergogenic aids, such as creatine, and amino acids.

WMS has a much higher molecular weight than dextrose and maltodextrin so therefore passes through the stomach much faster, thus eliminating the risk of stomach discomfort; so there is no stomach cramping and no bloated feeling. Since WMS is absorbed so rapidly it can easily be consumed directly before or even during workouts without upsetting your stomach!

WMS acts like a pump, pulling the nutrients along with water into the muscle and at the correct speed and osmolality for your body to fully utilise.

WMS is soluble in water, mixes best with a shaker but can also be shaken and consumed immediately. It has a neutral taste and is an excellent addition to a formula or consumed on its own.

Our Waxy Maize Starch has a high percentage of Amylopectin (95-99%) and a low percentage of Amylose (1-5%). Amylopectin molecules are larger, heavier and easier for the stomach to digest. Therefore, foods that have little Amylose and lots of Amylopectin will be more rapidly digested and absorbed.

It certainly isn't tasteless, i was using malto and whey but bought some more supplements now i'm taking it more seriously and had egg white protein and this in a shake and gagged, obviously i assumed it was the egg white protein that tasted rank but it's actually this. It's also got a horrible chalky texture. As with all most things i'm used to it now but i definitely don't enjoy drinking it.

This product is absolute crap. It is finely ground corn flour. You would be better off cooking with it. Don't do as I did by trying to save a few quid - go for the real slow release carb option that is Vitargo. Myprotein shame on you for promoting a product as something that is advanced when we can buy simple corn flour in any major supermarket for a fraction of the price. This is about as effective to a sportsman as eating a batch of heavy scones right before a competition. Gut busting.

I bought a 2.5kg bag and I think this stuff is brill! Used it during football and my weights session and its easy to drink and doesn't give you any cramps or pain when you have during a workout; even football or running. No bloating and low GI. When I first got it I thought it tasted weird but I can easily have it on its own because it doesn't taste of much. If you struggle with that just use some flavouring or a drop of Robinsons and your ready to go. Mixes fine. I will certainly buy again.

ok took this 50g last night and it filled me out within the hour but i was noticeably flatter in the stomach area and bigger in other areas.no bloat whatsoever. \n\ntook 50g today and 30 mins later with nothing else in that time i weighed 2 pounds more and looked fuller again. taste is fine i didnt add anything it tasted fine to me anyway, mixed fairly easily, very drinkable, ill probably have this as my main source of carbs from now on with oats once a day too.

I tried a KG because of all the positive replies on here. I read an interesting article online on the actual scientific evidence for WMS, there isn't that much tbh :s I did not get hit with a huge energy burst like many people on here have found. I tried it post workout and also I tried it when playing football at half time. Doesn't seem to bloat at all. The taste is bland, and very grainy, creates a lot of mess because its texture is a lot like talcum powder so be careful when opening and using scoops etc. The aftertaste is strong, its not pleasant but not horrid either.

Although this may well be fantastic for its fast releasing sugar, when i recieved it... well it was like mixing flour into your shake. It has a very strange texture that personally my stomach couldn't handle. Got 4.95kg left of the stuff :(

I've been using a few scoops of this PWO and it does the job of any other carb,. minus the bloat or tooth rot! I would like to compare this to Vitargo, but the cost of Vitargo is out of my budget. This stuff is perfectly adequate though.

Tried this in my post workout shake today (mixed into MP Max Total protein XS mint choc with Creatine ethyl ester HCL) and it gave it a slightly nutty taste...dunno if I'm imagining it but was rather pleasant!\nixed and tasted well and feel quite good after a good workout so hope to include it as a stapel in my recovery process. Only 4 star rated as first day try but likely, as normal with all MP, to be yet another perfect stars

This stuff is chalky in texture but completely tasteless. You can add it to water in a shaker, shake it and drink it no problem. It's even better if you mix it with a bit of juice - you'd never even know it's there.\n\n

WMS I have been taking it with my Creatine - HMB drink during training and have added it also to my PWO shake!\r\nGreat stuff as an alternative to \"heavy\" dextrose etc. Mixes well but doesnt really dissolve, has no taste as such but these arent a problem.\r\nWill be buying again. Yours Dave

Waxy Maize Starch. When I first read about this I thought it sounded pretty grim, but then I got hooked on hydrolysed whey protein and thought I'd give some a try for the hell of it - and I'd heard that the two go well together .\r\n\r\nSo anyway, my order turned up and after my next workout I mixed 30g of waxy maize starch (wms) with 30g of hydrolysed whey protein (HWP). It's like drinking cornflour that doesn't thicken up into to goo and it helps take away some of the bitterness of the hwp. It is a little sweet but nothing like dextrose.\r\n\r\nBut, wms is not just absolutely fantastic when mixed with hwp for a pwo shake, it's also a really good carb source you can drink throughout your workout.\r\n\r\nI have been mixing 15g of dextrose with the same amount of maltodextrin in a pint of water and drinking this 45mins before a workout, but I've found this gives me a bloated feeling and I always feel like I want to burp while I'm working out, which doesn't feel very nice as I'm sure you all know.\r\n\r\nSo I thought I'd try some wms. This stuff is supposed to be absorbed more quickly into the body than dextrose and as it isn't a sugar it won't play around with insulin levels, but it's still a high quality carb. So I mixed 30g in another pint of water and started drinking it right before my workout and then continued to sip on it as I went through my sets.\r\n\r\nWow. I felt good. Energy levels were good and there was no discomfort, no sugar rush and no wind. Yes, it does taste like you're drinking cornflower, but you overcome the taste and it is good for you.\r\n\r\nIf you get that same bloated feeling with dextrose or other energy drink, try some waxy maize starch. It's different and it might just work!\r\n

Tried this for 6 weeks, saw absolutely no improvement in performance. It is like flour and you have to be careful as it can get all over your clothes. Therefore very impractical. Taste isn't too good either. I'm sticking to dextrose.

I have been taking this for about 6 months now. It is probably the most effective supplement I have ever used. WMS can be consumed in such large quantities because it does not make you feel sick like taking too much dextrose can. It does not spend much time sitting in the stomach.\nThis is the best stuff out there for taking around your training if you are looking to get bigger and stronger.

This is awesome. The best form of carbs for taking during a workout. \n\nUnlike Maltrodextrine and Dextrose, WMS will not make you bloated. You can still take it pre and post workout. \n\nI never use Maltrodextrine and Dextrose since I found that.\n\nI train MMA and we do a lot of grappling, hence lot of rolling around, this prevent you from puking all your carbs on the mat!

this stuff is amazing, i can kill myslef in the gym, head to the changing rooms for one of these then want to head straight back into the gym, its amazing.\nalso works as a great half time shake for rugby, its really light and gives absolutely no cramping.\n\na lot of people underestimate the importance of carbohydrates over proteins in pw/o shakes, this is perfect for replenishing all the energy you lose in exercise and start recovery asap.

Been drinking a solution between bouts of grappling sparring and i reckon ive added about an hour+ onto my training times. Usually KO'ed after 2 hours, now im the last to leave the mat. Great stuff, tastes neutral, a little chalky in texture maybe but thats all....

This is the business! I used to use Maltodextrin post work out but gave this a go after reading up about it. It's twice as much as Maltodextrin but it's even better! Mixes so well and is very light on the stomach! Awesome for post workout recovery!

This stuff is great. I've tried dextrose and maltodextrin and both are way too sweet for my liking, this stuff tastes of nothing and mixes great with protein powder and flavouring. Plus it doesn't give me a bad stomach like dextrose and maltodextrin. Would also recommend this over super fine oats. I've tried them all and this is the best!

Started using WMS on recommendation of William Sichel as I've had digestion problems with other carb drinks during my racing. Since I started taking this I have set new PB's and last weekend won the Wales Ultra Running Championship for the first time. Has a chalky taste and you need to shake it well. I use a 6% solution which works for me.(60g to one litre water)

I was recommended to try using a carbohydrate shake as I run regularly and reading this found it stated for post workout consumption. I have found taking 50g in 8mls of water just before a run gives a great boost taking away the tired early feelings. I have taken after it blended oats in milk which kicks in nicely after the wma wears off for my longer runs. Over 40mins i have taken wma again to boost and found it works well not giving any signs of bloating. Found it non tasting and as only mixed with a little water easy to swallow, but mixing with ordinary squash adds flavour if required. Certainly helping my pb goals increase so can only recommend. More importantly just enjoy your training :-)

Benefits are that the taste is bland and no bloating. However, post workout you might be better off sticking with malto or dextrose as Waxy Maize may not be quite what it has been marketed to be (i.e. a rapidly absorbed carb source). I'm sure it has it's benefits but maybe not PWO according to this ------> http://www.brinkzone.com/supplement-science/holy-spin-doctor-batman-latest-on-wazy-maize/

great pre carb drink for gym or any outdoor sport,, 3 scoops of it before gym is twice as better as any oats. but pure vitargo could be better than waxy maize cause it has been tested and proved.. but must say i have been impress with the waxy maize and the recovery response after training even though..
