Overview

Xanthan gum is one of the most effective sources of dietary fibre available. It can be used to add texture to food without the need for gluten and is completely non toxic. Xanthan gum is produced through the fermentation of sugars by the Xanthomonas Campestris bacteria, and is a bio polymer that is structured like cellulose.

Many people find that having fibre rich diet can be a struggle, particularly if they do not eat a high proportion of fruit and green vegetables. Xanthan gum, in supplement form, adds bulk to the diet and acts as a substitute for normal fibre.

For anyone that is unable to eat gluten as part of their diet this is a suitable alternative to use in cooking. Generally, foods eaten as part of a gluten free diet lack texture and thickness. Adding Xanthan gum to cooking sauces will increase the bulk of foods without adding a significant amount of calories.

There are no side-effects to eating additional Xanthan gum over an extended period of time, and it is a useful dietary supplement for people suffering from IBS. Consuming Xanthan gum will increase the intake of fibre to improve digestive transit, without the need to eat starchy foods that can increase pain.

Suggested Use

Add 300-350ml of water or fruit juice into our shaker (the less liquid the thicker the shake will be). Then add two thirds of an MP small scoops (2g), shake and consume. Use 1-2 times daily or as required. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Xantham Gum is strange stuff, it's a very fine, tasteless powder that lives up to the usual high standards expected from MyProtein, however it's difficult to handle and I'm not sure how much use it is as a dietary supplement. \n\nThe powder is so fine that it gets everywhere and the slightest contact with water produces a sticky slime. Adding > 2g in 400ml of shake makes the whole thing too thick to drink. I found that around .5g gave a shake the thickness of Frij milkshakes but the texture was still slimey. Capping it was a bit of a struggle due to the fineness of the powder and because it's so light, it means having to neck a lot of capsules to get the desired amount. I found that mixing it with sugar free jelly produced the best results and I was able to consume about 3g of fibre per serving, so I consumed 3 servings over 2 days. This produced excellent results as far as my performance in the toilet is concerned, let's leave it at that.\n\nSo, if you're having trouble getting enough fibre in your diet and your number twos are suffering as a result, Xantham gum will sort you out. Awesome for making my shakes thicker, needed to experiment with the dosage a bit, didn't get the same results as others (i needed to use more to get the desired result) but at this price who cares!? My only beef with it is that it can be a bit of a nightmare to mix - shaker doesn't desolve it properly - may invest in a blender..either that or make stirring my shakes with a fork part of my warm up...clockwise aaaaaaand anti-clockwise. Great product MP.
